Hello

I bought a nice pair of hemichromis under the popular name "red jucel cichlid". Now I am trying the determine the species.

Both male and female has a clear mark/dod by the geels.
The male has a bumby head
Both male and female is brownish/olive on the head
The male i a digger

I have attached pictures of the male

I suspect that it is a H. guttatus or a derivative of that species. The solid red body color (rather than a split pattern between red and orange/brown/yellow), blue spots (rather than lines) and faded lateral line spot are clues that it is H. guttatus.

Can you provide a pic of the female? It bears some resemblance to the Togo lagoon form of guttatus that Dr. Loiselle sent to the US way back in the 70's.
