I've been out of the Apisto realm for quite a few years and just started setting up some tanks for Apistos again last month. I searched high and low on the web for Romer's Cichlid Atlas Volume I, since it came out while I was on hiatus. After lots of digging, finding out that inventory had burned in a fire and David Soares telling me that the re-issue might yet be a ways out, I felt like maybe I'd just have to give it up for now.
Yesterday I was at a LFS getting a few plants and scavengers for the Apisto tanks and decided to glance over their wall of books. Lo and behold on the far end of a dusty shelf was not one, but TWO copies of the book! I couldn't believe it. Since they were looking somewhat neglected, the super cool dude behind the counter even gave me 25% off the one I bought.
They still have one left, so if anyone is desperate to get their hands on a copy, they had them stickered at $65. I couldn't guarantee that I'd get the same discount as before, but I'd be happy to try to snag it for someone in need.
I do think it's a great book for Apisto-heads, but I was somewhat suprised at the absence of species I was expecting to see. Species I had even kept 6 or 7 years ago (like the morado in my avatar). I assume this only means I need to get volume 2.
I'm very envious of the amount of time these guys have been able to spend in the native habitats. Maybe someday...
