Hey all,
Thought I'd share this interesting little thing I saw yesterday. As I was going through my fishroom I came upon something I wouldn't have expected. I currently have a female elizabethae vigilantly guarding and attempting to care for a three-day free-swimming spawn of eremnopyge. I recently switched a couple tanks around and swapped this female for a breeding harem of eremnopyge. The male had already been in the tank so I figured I' let them settle in and hopefully get some more spawning. In the process of removing the fresa I found a few spawns and this one was nearly free-swimming so I removed the fry to a specimen container and left them in the tank. To my surprise the female seems to have adopted the spawn as her own and is chasing away all other fish while trying to lead the fry around. She won't leave the container, and she's taking on brooding colors too. I just didn't figure on this coming from elizabethae, so it was kind of neat. It's been about a month since she's had any fry of her own too.
