Electric Blue Rams & Blue Rams

Hi

I was just wondering if I cross bred a male Electric Blue Ram with a female Blue Ram

Would I get any Electric Blue Rams??

Good or bad idea??

I just let my Electric Blue male pair with my normal colored female. The offspring is wigglers at the moment, they hatched yesterday, so I cannot say anything about their color yet.
I made this cross, because I lost my female Electric Blue some time ago.

I'm also very interested in hearing experiences of this kind of crosses.

Hi all,
It will depend upon the nature of the EB colouring. If it is a single recessive gene mutation (Mendelian genetics) all the F1 generation will be normally coloured, although some will have the EB gene (they will be heterozygous). If you back cross the females from the F1 generation with the EB male you should then get some EB offspring in the F2 generation. This explains it:

The other less likely possibility is that the Rams were line bred to enhance their blue colouring (like the "Triple Red" Apistogrammas) in which case you may get some fairly blue ones in the F1 generation.
