so i noticed one of my fish was turning lighter in color, skinnier, and looking kind of ill, i put her into another tank which was empty and after a while a worm is coming out of her bumhole. half of the worm looking thing if clear and the other half is whitish... it looks to be a dead worm? well beside that worm looks like something else is coming out of the bumhole but its only peeking out so maybe it could be poop or another worm... any way i can help the fishy or nothin i can do? pull the worm out maybe? she doesnt seem like shes into much anymore, cant eat but she still darts for the food.. very skinny also, she never was this skinny befor, she eats like monster usualy

Hi,

Well this is not the best news for you. It is hard to do a diagnosis over the net, however would suggest you go down to your local and get some medication for parasitic worms. Hope it goes well, but I must warn you, that at this late stage it might not work to help your fish. sorry cheers jk

I have never heard of a half white half clear worm so I will guess that it is feces but that would still indicate a problem because they should be dark.

If you can see thread type things coming out and then back in then you could be describing camelanus but they are usually red.

Do not pull the worm out. They are attached inside the fish through the intestinal or stomach wall and by pulling them out you will rip a hole which will definitely kill your fish.

Its hard to tell from your description but if my guesses are right then I would be using levamisole in water at 2 - 4 ppm or if she is still eating then soak 1/2 a cube of bloodworms in 2mls of panacur100 (fenbendazole) for 30 minutes and feed her a few of them. Dont use fenbendazole directly in the water.

If you are sure that the white/clear thing is a worm then it is more likely to be a tapeworm which will need praziquantel.

Only use a medication if you are sure of the problem so please double check the symptoms and if you have any questions please ask before using any thing.

ok guys little update on fishy because she looks like shes about to die soon...

well she looks like shes posessed or something, she is pale-ish in color, she isn't acting normal at all.. i have never seen her like this befor, her tummy is still small(cant eat but will try to eat).. here is some very weird thing she would be doing, she would have her mouth open a bit wider and not as small as the other females, she looks like she is choking or something and then she would do this kind of weak tail slap but the weird thing is she does this weak looking tail slap like literally every 3-5 seconds... i am thinking since the worm was white and half clear that maybe it was a dead worm??? i dont know just an idea.... i have read online that aquariam salt for fresh water will help aid them... you guys think i should try this? hate to see her dieing and i cant do anything to help :(

Hi,

sorry to hear this sad news and that it is going down hill. Looks like a parasitic worm or infection. Now just speaking from reading other forums as well. To the best of my knowledge the salt bath is good for external parasites, but at this stage you could give it a try. Ok as follows
take 3liters of you tank water in a seperate tank. add and airstone, put in the fish, disolve 1heaped teespoon with some aquarium water and addto the 3 liters, leave fish in for 15min. In the meantime do a normal water change in the original aquarium. return your fish. No guarantee. let us know...cheers jk
