I got two males of gibbiceps (What I think) but my LFS also have some gibbiceps who are more slender than my more robust-type of gibbiceps.
May this be diffrent species or diffrent main locations or just diffrent type of breeders?

Anyknown diffrence between locations og gibbiceps?

The true A. personata, which probably never has been in the hobby, is even more deep-bodied than A. gibbiceps. It is possible that your local fish store (LFS) has wild caught gibbiceps that are still skinny from being without food for a week or more. Without some sort of description it is hard to say what they are. There are several other species that show abdominal bars below the lateral band. One way to determine if they are A. gibbiceps is to see if they have a tiny metallic blue patch on the lower lip at the corner of the mouth. As far as I know only A. gibbiceps (& A. roraimae), being part of the agassizii-lineage, have this spot together with abdominal bars.

Pär,

Your fish are the typical A. gibbiceps found over most of its range.

Kentama,

Your fish is the form originally imported (with Cardinal Tetras) during the early 1980s. Koslowski (1985), as do you, called it A. cf. gibbiceps. Römer reports that this form (with cross-stripes in the center-posterior part of the tail) occurs in the lower Rio Branco. It has other features that are different from the type A. gibbiceps and might be a separate species. It is not common in the hobby.

I was also keeping that form of Gibbiceps (as shown on your photos Kentama) in the early eighties. But I haven´t seen them since then, unfortunately.

I appreciate your useful information.
The master of LFS said that the collecting location of my fish is Santa Isabel and same type gibbiceps is known from upper Negro.

Hi Kentama

I was looking at the photos of apistos on your website. Those are great pic´s. I can recognize most of the species, but some of them are not familiar to me.

What is the name on that species, third from the top on the list? Some incredible colour on that male!!

Can you tell me the names of all the species from top to bottom? on your list below.

By the way, can you please recommend some nice shops in tokyo (or in Niigata) specialized in dwarf cichlids? I will travel to Japan next year in July. Staying a few days in Tokyo, but staying two or three weeks in Niigata-ken.
I will definately visit the permanent exhibition by the famous Amano in Niigata.

kentama,

WELCOME TO THE FORUM

You are making many of us envious with your pics and the fish that you have. On top of that, it looks like your nice fish live in very nicely planted and maintained tanks. Congratulations!

Sorry my broken English.

Don't be. Your English is very good.
