Differencies(hope i spelled right)!

hello, i have a question(that needs answering).I have a pair Apistogramma Macmasteri , i wonder how do you tell the which is male and female. The one that i think is a male is also chasing the female, is this normal, should i worry. THANKS :mrgreen:

i cant remember,but if the male is chacing the female too much it might die so hope u have lots of plants and caves..if u really can't tell the difference in the sexes the might both be males

Sorry this is late (Z Man just recently told me about the wonderful forum here!), but macmasteri females--much like other apistos--have a distinctly black front edge on their pelvic fins. Males also have longer unpaired fins, particularly noticeable in the posterior part of the dorsal fin and in the anal fin. They're also larger and generally (but not always) more colorful and higher-backed. HTH!

Sometimes they can be tough to tell apart (non-dimorphic) when they are not fully grown, because of the color issues. But as 2la says the fins in fully developed males is a dead give away, along with the fact that the "ready" female turning her yellowish color can't hurt.
