Hard to say if the lower extension is normal or been damaged. I have a photo from a Japanese aquarium magazine that shows a specimen that looks exactly like A. elizabethae except it shows no extended anterior dorsal spines. Is it a different species? I don't know. I will say that the fin doesn't look damaged. I guess you only will know for certain if you breed this male and male offspring also show the same caudal fin shape.

Fortunate for me he is the Alpha male, but don't have the means to breed them right now unless it happens in this tank...
