Cutting Anubis Plants

I have two large anubus that are outgrowing their area. The have stemmed off into different umm stems (?). Anyways i was wondering
If i could cut off these new stems in an attempt to plant them as well in another part of the tank.
- Will this work?
- Where should i cut?
- Does it need to have roots coming off the stem to grow?
- Will the plant continue grow from the stump on the main stem where i cut it?
Any help will be greatly apprieciated. And the quicker the better. Thanks in advance. Adam

partially cutting through the outer surface of the main stem will lead to further branching at theses points

if the plant is large and you are impatient then cutting through the rooted part should be fine too

The 'stem' is actually a rhizome on anubias. Leaves connect to the rhizome, and then roots grow from the rhizome. Once the rhizome hits about 3 inches long, you can cut it in half to split the plant into two plants. Both halves should grow normally.

Hope that helps,

Thanks

Hey guys
Thanks for the advice. My plants are now about 5 inches long on the main stem. So just to make sure i understand the advice. If i make small cuts to the main stem new shoots will grow from there. And if i cut off a new shoot it wont have any adverse affects on the plant, even though my shoots are at least 5mm in diametre. Anubis is such a great plant. The one that im planning on cutting is an anubis Bartioli (no idea on spelling) It has very large leaves, and the reason i was thinking of doing it was that its over crowded the area in which is growing, and the leaves arent developing properly.
Thanks again. Adam

Just cut the rhizome, which you refer as the main stem. I even cut some down to 1 inch parts and they grow fine, but these are anubius var nana. There will be no adverse effects if u just cut the rhizome. And btw, always keep your rhizome out of the gravel. Anubius does a much better job extracting nutrients from the water than it does from the substrate(if you didn't know already).
