corkbark in with apisto's?

just wondering if anyone knows wether corkbark would be safe to use in a tank as a cave, you know the soft bark used in reptile set-ups?
i keep geckos too and use it regularly in there vivs but wondered if they would be ok in water? would it leach unwanted pollutants??

thought if i bioled it for a cple of mins then soaked it in some old tank water for a week or so do you think it would help reduce toxicity if it has any??

the main problem here is getting it to sink !!!!

i have tried putting it in a tub of water for 1 month and it still floats.

well, cos the wood is quite soft, ive just pushed some pebbles into the underside of the bark and now my little piece sinks

just nervous about putting it into the tank, not sure of its safe
