Hi all,

I keep 5 Copella Arnoldi as dither fish in my community tank. I have acquired this species since the beginning of November. Although never my intent, this species seems to love my tank and is constantly laying eggs against the lid. The eggs are fertilised as baby fish can be seen when a flash light is used to shine on the eggs. I’ve tried to let them hatch the natural way for the past months. I’ve let the full surface of my tank get covered in floating plants in the hopes of some fry surving. However i fear they have all become a snack to my Apistogramma sp. D10 and my nannostomus eques.

Does anyone have some experience breeding this species? I’ve now tried seperating the eggs from the lid, after i’ve led the male Copella take care of them for about 2,5 days, hoping the eggs will hatch in a breeder box. I was hoping someone here could provide me with some extra information as it seems to be fairly hard to find any.

Kind regards, Christian

Succes! Some of the eggs hatched in the breeder box. Biggest problem for now, these fry are unbelieveably tiny. I put some baby brine shrimp in, but they seem to be almost the same size.....

Does someone have some suggestions on what to feed them?

Vinegar Eels or Paramecium if you have a culture. Assuming you don't? I'd try a big handful of moss and then squeeze a filter sponge into it.

I'd put in a good word for <"Vinegar Eels">, they are incredibly low maintenance as a culture.

About 30 fish raised themselves largely in my <"spare tank">.

cheers Darrel

Thank you for the input Darrel. I will try to get my hands on a culture of vinegar eels. For now i will use a ball of moss with a squeezed out filter sponge.

Loved to read your post on this species. It’s a fascinating species

Hello Darrel

Why the handful of miss and them squeeze the filter sponge? Does this creates a micro colony of food for fry? Thanks
