Hi!

Did anyone see or hear about A. (bitaeniata?) "Shishita" or A. sp. "Sunset" II (not atahualpa) or Apistogramma sp "Kiko" or Apistogramma sp. "Huallaga" or Apistogramma sp. "Hauswell"?

All are from Peru.

Thanks

Daniel

fideltagamma,
Well I don't know anything about "Sisita", but A. sp. "Sunset" II is likely the second species-form of A. atahualpa - "Corrientillo". The first A. atahualpa "Llanchama" is the one most know as Sunset or just A. atahualpa. However, it could also be The New Sunset, which a year or 2 back was given a temporary designation of A sp. "Nijsseni complex" by Julio Melgar. I am not sure where it lies now.
Apistogramma sp "Kiko" - don't know, new one to me.
Apistogramma sp. "Huallaga" - can't quite remember whether this was Inca 50 or High-finned Panduro, but I think that I saw it as one of these on some list.
Apistogramma sp. "Hauswell" - don't know about this one either.

The problem is that the same fish are given so many different names by so many distributers over time, that it is quite often impossible to tell exact what they are. A few of those may well be new species that I have not heard of yet though. If they are, give them time. They will soon be named something else by someone else :?

OK, I will try to post some pictures this weekend. I think that huallaga is of the regani komplex. If I don't mix the tanks. But still I cannot identify it. Maybe for you it will be easier with the pictures.

Hi Daniel

Nice pictures! But I had big problem to open them! It took me about one minut per photo. So I have only looked at the Ap. sp. Shishita pic´s.
There is definately two distinctive species on those photos! One species seem to belong to the regani-group and the other seem to be a agassizi type of species.

Hope someone can find out more about them! :) Both species looks really nice!

Best regards/ Per

Apistogramma Commercial/Trade Names

Dear Daniel,

I gave up on the myriad of new and constantly changing Apistogramma commercial/trade names some time ago, but Mike Wise here in the States tells me that A. sp. "Morado" or "Purple" (Morado is Spanish for purple.) is a color form of A. sp. "Papagei" or "Parrot" (Papagei is Spanish for parrot.). A. sp. "Hauswell" is A. sp. "Maulbruter" or, in English, "Mouthbrooder."

Good luck with the others. I can't keep track anymore.

All the best,

Randall Kohn
