I noticed during the past few days that there has been a coloration change of two of my females and the sub-dominant male. The dominant male and one of the females colors have not changed. Plus the female who appears to be dominant tends to chase the other females away.

I'm assuming that the dominant male and this female whose color has not changed are pairing. I'm I guessing correctly? They are currently housed in a 42 gallon SA dwarf cichlid community tank (a few ramirezi and altispinosa) but I'm planning on separating them into a 20 gallon (long).

Comments, suggestions and advice are welcome.

Almost becoming a brownish color.

On Nov.26 I noticed what appears to be the dominant female begin to protect a particular clay pot that is on its side. I didn't notice any eggs in the pot. She would come out, turn on her side and make some odd movements as if to attract the male. He would concurrently engage in some spastic type movements. Reminded me "somewhat" of when my altispinosa engage in a pre-spawning ritual.

The other aggies, of which there are 2 females and 1 male, do not even approach these two who seem to be the only two that will tolerate each other. What do you think Neil?
