Coconut shells

How do you guys prepare coconut shells for use in your tanks? I can't seem to get the meat off of the shell without major hassles.

Simple. Put the 2 halves of the coconut in a freezer for 2 or 3 days. The let it "thaw" for a few hours. Then cut through sections of the meat, slide a thin blade knife between the meat & the shell and twist. The pieces will pop out. My younger son has 2 perfect coconut halves that he uses for making the sound of a galloping horse (shades of Montey Python and the Holy Grail - and no we couldn't find an African Swallow!). If you don't want the meat, you can just cut the coconut in half and set it in the sun to dry. The meat will dry & start to separate from the shell.
