Finally buying the above mentionned book. Canadian companies were selling the tome for around $80-90 something I just wasn't prepared to pay. However, I managed to find it on the Big Al's US Site (The Cdn site is WAY overpriced) and had it shipped to a friend in Houston who will re-ship it to me in Canada). Silly, but it saves me around $50 so perhaps not so silly.

IYO, what do you find the strengths of the Romer Atlas to be?

Uwe's atlas has an amazing wealth of information on biotopes & breeding studies. Although the IDs are not entirely accurate, the discussions for the species are quite detailed & for the most part accurate. The bibliography is the most complete (up to 1997) availabe. Please don't use his identification key; it is an exercise in frustration.

Guess I didn't read into your post far enough, as I didn't see the part about our opinions. I'd pretty much agree with mike. There is a wealth of info there, even with the mis-ID's. My copy is weel worn. I find myself reaching for it when I have new apistos coming even if I have worked with them before. I have found the distribution info most interesting.

I actually had the chance to meet Uwe a few years ago when he spoke at the NEC convention here in Connecticut. A very nice guy! I even bought some Biotoechus opercularis from him, and managed to score another bag of them that he put in the auction.
