Feeding Apistogramma Fry

Dear Wasabi,

Tetra Bits are too big for your Apistogramma fry. In addition to microworms, you can feed them baby brine shrimp (live or frozen) or a powdered food mixed with water that you can squirt into the shoal. Feeding should be done several times daily for the first two weeks (about four times per day). Afterward, twice each day is fine.

Good luck!

You came to the right place. Not much impresses most of us like Dwarf Cichlids too!! :D

By the way the powdered mix is called Tetramin for egg-layers, but there is also a semi-liquid food called Liquifry that works OK as well. Some fry from a few specific species require something smaller than BBS and Tetramin and Liquifry are very helpful fo the first several days until they are big enough to take something else.

Good luck,

Neil

Tetra Bits for Fry

I refer to your query regarding tetra bits for fry. They certainly are too big for fry. I crush a small quantity between the bowls of two spoons and make a "milk" by placing the resulting dust in a pill bottle and shaking it in water. My fry do all right. This is a good quick fix if you don't have baby brine shrimp ready.

Tetra bits for fry

Try HBH fry bites mix a small amount in tank water, then useing a Turkey Baster puff the mixture near the fry, not to hard or it blows them of there feet, I have bred plenty of different fish and always use this method.
