can fish eat in the dark

Depends on the fish. Those that use scent (catfish) & electrical location (gymnotid eels) can, but sight predators cannot. For apistos, I would say no. Feed an hour before the lights go out. You can feed them anytime as long as there is some room light available.

Of course, they do not need as much light as we do. I can see my fish feeding in the light spilling over from the next room.

Most fish normally turn in or rest when the lights go out.

I wouldn't feed right before turning the lights off though, it might cause digestive problems.

thanks everyone i thought all fish were like trout or catfish. i've caught hundreds of fish in pitch black with a single salmon egg....
