Hi
I got two Wild Apistogramma Cacatuoides from my LFS the other day. but I do not know if they are ether young males or females? I got a large one and one that is about 3/4 the size of the large one (thinking that it is a female).

Here is a shot of the bigger one:

Here is a shot of the smaller one:

They´re not A. cacatuoides.

In my opinion, they´re A. bitaeniata (the first one, a male; the last one, may be a female).

Bye

bitaeniata male or female

I think you might be right they are A. bitaeniata. I was going by what they where named in the tank it is probably not the first time the LFS has messed this up. Well at least they were in the ballpark. I believe that the bigger one is a male but I also think the smaller one is a male. They both have rounded caudal fins and they both also have yellow ventral fins (all the females I have seen on the net have black ones). I will see if I can get a better shot of the smaller one (it always seems to be hiding somewhere)

Currently I have both in a 10G (40L tank) with some white clouds. I was hoping to get a M/F pair so they will not stress each other out.

Sadly, I must agree with you - you have 2 young male A. bitaeniata. If they still have more fish, look for smaller specimens with very few blue markings on the face, no markings on the tail, and black on the ventral fins. These will be females.
