cacatuoides genetics??

I currently have 2 spawns growing out of triple reds. Is it normal to have a VERY low percentags of actual triples??? Most of the young males are closer to doubles (by definition) but have many areas of no color spots on the fins....and some sort of single reds!!

I have a trio and I believe they are probably siblings..should I find an unrelated male somewhere?? or female?? Which carries the color scheme??

Really don't want to raise non-triple reds, they are my favorites..and will start leaving the fry in the commumity tank. I was siphoning them out within a week of free swimming.

The quality of your domestic strain depends on the quality of the stock from which your fish come. Even if you have the best specimen from a mediocre strain, it will not produce the quality of an average specimen from a quality stain. Triple reds are getting better, but still are not a perfectly fixed strain. Food also has some effect on color.

Thanks Mike!!! I'm sure food is not an issue with these guys...they eat anything!!!....I even chop fresh bay anchovies for them...caught in my throw net!! plus brine shrimp, daphnia, flakes, pellets and blue crab scraps!!!!

I guess i need to decide whether or not I really want to breed anymore!! Then will have to find a good strain somewhere.

But, it has been a great training with the cacs and borellis!!
