Well after a lot of hard work by our excellent secretary i can now announce the details for the next BCA convention. We are very lucky to have two world class European speakers flying over to visit the BCA on May 6th 2012. This event is being held at our usual address which is.
Lodge Park Social Club
Wirehill Drive,
Lodge Park,
Redditch, Worcestershire.
B98 7LH
Doors will be open at around 9am, action starts at 10am and we feature two world class lectures, huge raffle plus the largest cichlid auction in the UK.
First we have Mr Michel Keijman giving his
'Cichlids out of dark Africa'
lecture, this is a journey through west and central Africa and gives a insight to the stunning array of cichlids found in this area, from Hemichromis to Pelvicachromis, Hererochromis to Tilapia this lecture should offer everyone a glimpse into the world of African cichlids. Michel recently gave this lecture in the Netherlands where it went down a storm! we hope the BCA members will appreciate it just as much!
Secondly we have invited the great adventurer and author Mr Uwe Werner from Germany to perform a lecture for the BCA, Uwe accepted straight away and is looking forward to visiting the UK come May 6th! Uwe has many lectures to choose from and it has been decided to go with a South American theme and a topic not covered in recent years at BCA events,
'Fascinating predators: Pike cichlids from South America'
should grab everyones attention and will highlight one of the largest groups of cichlids in South America! there is a Pike cichlid in almost every waterway in S.America and its a group of fish not often explored and lectured about. We hope that Uwe can encourage a few more keepers of these magnificent creatures.
Uwe Werner is a secondry school teacher in his native Germany and a long term aquarist since 1958, starting writing in the 1980's Uwe has a string of books to his name on a wide range of aquatic subjects, also in the 80's he started a series of ichthyological collecting trips to many countries in south America, Mexico and Africa.. There he has collected many unknown species of cichlids amongst other fish.
We are very lucky to have both of these wonderful speakers booked and all details arranged and finalised. So put Sunday, May 6th into your Diary and make sure that you come and join the UK's oldest and largest cichlid group for their annual spring convention and auction.
