Breeding rams without RO unit?

I've read that the eggs need the softer water for proper development and eventually to hatch. My question is can the ram eggs be transfered over to a tank with distilled water in it after the eggs are laid and the male has done his passes over them a couple of times AND then successfully hatch?

no i believe the sperm can not fertilise the egg in harder water so transfering after this sterp will not help acheive higher rates of hatching

what is your water like

It will depend on you water. I don't test mine for much but have a ph of 7 give or take .1 My ram eggs hatch just fine so long as I don't leave them with the pair. I just use tap water for hatching, then aged water for any w/c on wigglers etc.
Conditioning the pair before spawning plays an important role in your hatching rates. High quality protein foods like shrimp, bloodworms and beefheart will improve the hatch rates.
Good luck with them.
