Breeding Altolamprologus Calvus

Hi, this is my first post so please take it easy if my newwness shows too much

i have two black calvus and dont know their sex ... they are still too young.

i wanted to get some yellow ones in with them to give me a better chance of having at least 1 male and 1 female.

does anyone know if i can breed different colored Altolamprologus Calvus
together or do they only breed if they are the same color.

Welcome to the forum.

Certainly, Black and Yellow calvus would breed together, if allowed.

Having said that, the offspring would be considered a cross, and undesirable. Crossing species, or strains is something that is very much frowned upon in the cichlid community.

Perhaps you can pick up a few more black calvus, and if you need any assistance on how to best set things up for them, I would be happy to help you out.

thanx for keeping from making a big mistake... i had no idea crossbreeding was not a good thing.... ill look for some black ones in my local stores.

if you had any tips on what i can do to make them more comfortable in the tank .... it would be greatly appreciated

What size tank are you going to keep them in? Anything else going in the tank?
