Boosting Color with fish food?

Ok guys I'll keep this brief because I'm among the experts so to speak. I have a honglsoi in a 55 and as you know over time this breed tends to lose it's color intensity. It's often suggested that you feed cyclops etc but I didn't have that available and decided to skeptically test out nls and see if the, what seemed at the time, exaggerated claims were true.

Here's a vid of the experiment/feeding over 30 days. I'm including the link as the changes are not as clear unless watched in HD:

Crucially the male already colored up and spawned successfully prior to me making this vid. So I had to rule that out as a cause for the change in color. Let me know what you think...

Sorry, but I don't see an extraordinary difference outside of normal behavior and reaction to surroundings. Example: a male apisto displaying in front of a mirror will react differently than in a natural single-male environment. A female that is ready to spawn versus a female who has eggs versus a female who is not ready to spawn will change a male apisto's coloration just as much.

This is all true. However, to me the change is clear whilst keeping all of the different things you mention above uniform. The hongsloi already bred with the female and most importantly bred with the female in his before nls color. Without lowering of the ph and feeding live/frozen the male rarely interacts with the female. And when he does it's not courtship. Nls is great for color but does nothing to get them in the mood so to speak...
