These fish are not commonly thought of as good parents. However, if they are comfortable and in a stable environment, they usually come around in time and are very entertaining to watch.

This pair not only raises each spawn, but often raises one batch while spawning again and tending the eggs.

Note the eggs in the PVC union on the right as well as the fry surrounding the parents. The male is in the front "attacking" me as I shot the photo. Female guarding the fry in the left rear. After I shot this, the male went back into the PVC union and started fanning the eggs again.
