Baenschi egg behavior

Caught my wild caught baenschi with eggs today. Weird thing though is she is laying in the sand next to them. I know she's fine as she will come out and swim but the. She tucks herself back in her hole. What do you guys think?

I'm guessing you didn't give her a suitable cave that she can get inside (coconut, flowerpot, etc), so she's making do with a less-than-optimal spawning site. Some fish do this anyway, even if you do give them a more suitable cave (apparently suitable to human eyes, anyway).

She's got caves, just being an odd fish. Maybe they aren't tight enough? Ive wanted to get some coconuts for a while now, maybe I'll look into them more.
