Are my eggs Fertile!!

Hi, I'm new to keeping Apistogrammas, I have 4 in a 75ltr tank (3f, 1m) with no other tank mates. I carried out a 20% W/C last night and this evening I've noticed one of the female gaurding one of the caves. Looking inside I can see several dozzen eggs which are white in colour. I'm feeding them on tetra pro colour early evening and the a frozen offering just before lights out.

Can anyone more experienced tell me if the have been fertilised?

Morning,

The wonders of Apistos, is that depending on which type you have and what you feed, will then decide on the colour of the eggs. Any foul eggs the female will dispose of. Not knowing what type of Apisto you have, I would suggest to observe over the next few days to see what happens. If they are not fertilised the female will remove them and also clean the area. It is also not uncommon for the first batch of eggs to be just a so to speak trial bunch. One thing of a positive is, at least you know they are laying eggs.

Firstly welcome and congratulations on the eggs

Sounds like you are doing well with good food and a good size tank.

Usually the eggs arent white but the colours can vary alot, most times somewhere between cream and red. As Bigbird has already said this depends on a number of factors including the food type.

Please post the type of fish you have and keep us updated with progress. Dont be discouraged if this batch doesnt come to anything because you will get more.
