I have recently bought a pair of apistogramma sp 'Apache' (That's what they were labeled in the shop). Can i put some Panda Cory's with them or would they be better with a larger cory with them or no Cory's at all. They would be in a 3 foot long tank. Thanks in advance for any advice, Cheers, Alan.

First, welcome to the apisto forum. A. sp. Apache, another name for A. sp. Masken, will be fine with Panda Corys in a community setting. Just don't expect much success with breeding. Corys will enter apisto breeding caves and eat eggs/larvae/fry if they can get to them. Female apistos have very little success protecting their offspring from these little tanks. One word of warning apistos have been reported to bite the eyes out of corys when trying to protect fry.

From what Ive read C panda comes from the Rio Ucayali system of Peru which has an unusually high pH at 7.7.These fish seem very tolerant but maybe a softer water cory might be better.

While the Río Ucayali is a whitewater river, Cory. panda does not occur in the river. It is found in clearwater streams that enter the Ucayali. A. sp. Masken/Apache is from mixed clear/blackwater streams in the Ucayali system. Still, both species should be fine in a community tank situation.
