In recently the sp black chin has been scientificaly described as Apistogramma allpahuayo but the question that i always need to know for a long time is why every time i order apistogramma Juruensis,I always get apistogramma black chin instead. Although they are very similar and sometime black chin look more colorful than Juruensis but I need to see the real Juruensis.
Is it difficult to get real juruensis? Is the juruensis is very rare in their habitat?

this picture below is my Apistogramma Black chin (was order as Juruensis wild)

A. juruensis is not rare in its range, the upper Rio Juruá of western Brazil. The problem is that this locality is not collected by Brazilian collectors. I guess it's just too far from Brazilian exporters. It is (illegally) collected on rare occasions by Peruvian collectors and shipped out of Iquitos. I almost got some while in Peru last year, but arrived about a week late. All the exporter had left, apistowise, were some A. moae from the same general location as A. juruensis.

Actually, there's really no difference in dorsal fin height between A. alpahuayo and wild A. cacatuoides. Domestic color strains are a different matter. Breeders started breeding for color and ignore other aspects of the fish in the beginning, leading to short dorsal fins. Some breeders are now trying to put high dorsals back into the color strains.
