I imported these fish in from Peru around 2 months ago, they were very small and not really much to look at, i fished out several pairs and eventually settled on one pair for my own breeding project, after several months of good water and food the fish have matured into(still small) but beautiful fish.
I had a spawn two weeks ago and that is shown in these pictures, unfortunately i went away for a long weekend on the day they because freeswimming and for four days they didnt get the correct care! i eventually lost that brood but good news is that they have spawned again, the female is defending a coconut shell cave and the larger male is staying well out of her way!!
These are stunning and interesting relatives of Apistogramma and due to increased spines in the anal fin they live in the Apistogrammoides genus, they are the only fish in this group which is then called a monotypic genus..
Im really enjoying owning and breeding this fish. If anyone else is interested in trying them i have just brought some more wild fish in from Peru, pairs or groups are available, email or PM me for details..
