Hi,
Dennis and I have a pair of Steel blue Apistogrammas.
They are in a 20 long. The female has been very yellow the last week.

Dennis was looking at the tank and saw fry swimming under and around her!

What do you think we should do?
Pull them and raise them in a separate tank? ( I do have an extra tank)
Or let them stay in the tank with mom and dad?
I have fresh BBS I can feed.
We are new to Apistogrammas so any help or tip would be great!!
Thanks
Kelly and (very happy) Dennis

Hello,

IF your eyes do not fool you, then CONGRATS! You are one of the few who have a female steel blue! There aren't that many steelblue females circulating because of the nature of the fish. Because steelblue are hybridized fish, not occuring anywhere outside of the aquarium for some reason, there is a shortage of females and you have one! If the happy family is in the tank by themselves then you could take the parentfish or any other inhabitants out and try to raise the fry alone in the tank, or what I personally believe is best, is to leave them in there under the watchfull eye and protection of the parents. If you do see the fry are free-swimming, then they should be able to take freshly hatched bbs and they should be happy and healthy with a diet of that until they get larger. Keep feeding them 3-5 times a day and make plenty of water changes and they should grow fairly fast. Congrats again and please post pictures! keep us posted! john.

Congrats! Must be a great sight to see. Once the pair look ready to spawn again you will need to pull the fry or the pair, or if you notice the number of fry going down.
