A. uaupesi is a member of the iniridae-group. As such, all of the dorsal fin spines are fuse together and the species do not exhibit a caudal spot separate from the lateral band. A. sp. Erdfresser/Earth-eater is a member of the pertensis-complex of the pertensis-group. In this complex the dorsal fin spines are also fused together - except the first 2 or 3 spine - and the species show a caudal spot separate from the lateral band (with rare, odd exceptions). Erdfresser is known to have some variability, too. Some male have a lyrate tail while others have a trident tail. Most show a distinct caudal spot, but rare specimens do not. I believe that Erdfresser represents a relict form, similar to the original pertensis-group species.
