Definitely a female in the video.
Danke. Appreciate the response.

I think it's safe to call this Apisto a she now. She's a lot more colourful, and displays a vivid yellow now that she's been in this take for a few weeks now.

Hopefully this thread helps others with identifying the sex of their young A. Macmasteri.

Problem with many domestic strains is the females taking a lot of male attributes, as many so-called breeders just pick the most colourful parents. E.g. you find A. cacatuoides females that will look like males until the males surpass them in size. Same with many A. macmasteri.

In an annoying twist of fate, in the other fishtank, I just found out the sex of my other Macmasteri. I, and other people were so confident she was a male.

I thought about reintroducing the two of them the other day but luckily I decided against it as I wasn't going to be around to observe them when I was at work.

Video quality is very poor as it is in a very tight area of the fish tank where it's impossible to clean and to film.

Now to find a male and see whether anyone needs a female. Anyone know where I could search for one in Melbourne AU?

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
