Hi! I was sold this apisto last year as an agassizi female? Just wanted to confirm species and sex! Thank you!

Wild type/domestic strain-hybrid. Looks like a combination of a "Fire Red" and something else colourwise. And pretty sure a male, looking at the caudal and the tips of dorsal and anal fins.

I also thought it was probably a male, but could not be sure.

Thank you for all your replies! Just giving more background info I always thought it was a female but never spawned so wanted to confirm. Wanted to get a partner for him/her but was never sure what sex he was so it’s been left alone

It does look like a male with the fins but most domestic agassizii females now have spangling and coloured fins. The dark spot too, and showing those colours for a year makes me think it’s a female. Also the fact that the dorsal is quite small. If there are no other males in the tank I think the fish should look like a much more mature male. I could be wrong though, it’s always hard to ID domestic agassizii.

Whatever sex this fish is, do not add another one. You don't want the fish to spawn in a community gank and this one especially because mutts are not very popular you wouldn't be able to get rid of surviving fry.
Also a singular female rarely spawns without a partner. I only know of one case.

Re-designing and starting a new fish room all over again. This time we'll have many more Apistsogramma species. We are expanding.

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
