Apistogramma Harem species

You can keep any species of Apistogramma in small groups, if space allows it. You need to consider the need for territories, larger territories for the males. Each female needs a smaller territory with some sort of hiding place and some objects that create natural borders to their territory. However, there are many factors that affect the behaviour of these Cichlids, so even with these general rules strange situations occur. But the bottom line is that any species of Apistogramma can (or even SHOULD, if you want to observe the true nature of these fishes) be kept in groups consisting of more females than males if tank-space allows it. Some species are more monogamous than others, this is also something to consider carefully.

Thanks for the info Haakon. I just wondered as in literature some were described as harem species and others not
