You can take excellent pictures with dated equipment, you can also botch the easiest shots with state of the art gear.

You are right, the technique matters, but so does the apparatus. We cant take good macro photos using a regular lens and likewise for other kinds of photography as well. Hence i was interested in knowing esp. what kind of lighting he uses and lens.

Always nice to have a macro lens like your Sony SEL 30mm f/3.5 macro. I'm more curious about how you get a totally black background. Is it done in postprocessing or do you use some other form of magic?
