Apistogramma cruzi - lyretail?

I have had a pair of A. cruzi for about 3 months and the male has grown quite large. The dorsal fin terminal soft rays now extend almost half an inch past the end of the caudal fin. What is strange to me is that the caudal fin is now turning into a lyretail with definite points top and bottom. All of the photos I have seen of A. cruzi show a truncate fin. Is this typical?

In older males sometimes the truncate caudal fin can develop slight points, but I have yet to see a cruzi with a distinctive lyre tail. However, IMO it is not impossible in that species.

Cruzi Lyretail

I am certain it is a cruzi. I have a eunotus in the adjacent tank and the differences are quite evident.
