It appears to be close to Staeck's holotype of A. tucurui, with some spotting in the caudal fin. The spotting on the head, however, is more like that of the fish I list as A. cf. tucurui, which has a patternless caudal fin. It is the original form brought into the hobby as 'A. sp. Tucurui'. Your specimens seem to be intermediate between the two. They are most likely all just populations of A. tucurui. Where do all of you French aquarists get such interesting apistos???

Hello Mike,
In France we are a small group fascinated by the dwarfs.
We try hard to maintain & protect some rare, interesting, & wildform species.
We trade our fishes during stock exchanges.

Nicolas.

Mark, I'd love some juveniles!

Nicolas, it's good that species maintenance of rarer apistos occurs SOMEWHERE in the world. It's been tried in the US in the past, but never succeeded. BTW, I brought back a few Moenkhousia agnesae from my 2008 trip to Peru. They're a beautiful but super hyper-active fish - think of a zebra danio only ~4"/10cm long. I just didn't have a tank large enough. A 6'/1.8m long tank would be about right.

How did you get them to breed ?
I have a trio for several weeks now in a 250 liters tank, but nothing happens.

My water is rain water, mixed with pellets to give the dark tee color.
My PH is about 5,5-6.
