Hi all these fish have been a thorn in my side for far too long and im happy to have bred them at last!!!
I picked a pair up from my friend Mark Breeze last dec, brought them back to my fishroom and had no luck in spawning them, they just didnt want to know.. Mark asked if he could take them back to try them and see if we could keep them going in the UK... Of course within a week Mark had a successful spawning and grew the fry on.
Fast forward to the BCA auction in Oct and lo and behold there were a bag of juveniles being offered which suprisingly no one wanted! i picked them up dirt cheap and went home a happy man.
They have been growing on amongst other dwarfs(T.candidi and D.Maculatus) in my bare growout tanks and have grown to around an inch and three quarters in size. I decided they were ready to have their own tank after i caught the male displaying to his females(1 male, 3 females)
The best pair were given their own tank with suitable water, Ph 5, TDS 55ppm...Oak leaves and wood on a sand substrate finished the tank off perfectly..
That was two weeks ago and tonight ive been rewarded with a decent sized batch of fry which has made my night..I've got Apistogrammas coming out of my ears in the fishroom and spawns are not a rarity, far from it but its still nice to succeed at something that you have previously failed at...Im going to enjoy watching these fish grow!!!!
