What population is this variety of Apistogramma bitaeniata?
Would be Tefé ?

can't help you with your question, but whatever it may be, it is a very beautiful fish!!

All I can say is that it is a Brazilian form (more slender body, more distinct lateral band, fewer blue markings on the head). Without a known collecting location I cannot say where this fish originated. Besides specimens from the Rio Tefe/Bauana, I have photos of similar fish from Rio Manacapuru, Manaciri, & Careiro (Amazon near Manaus), Rio Januari (lower Rio Negro), Autezas/Rio Mamori (near mouth of Rio Madeira), and Curuaí (near Obidos).

I talked to the person who sold this variety of A. bitaeniata, and he said that is the region of Careiro, south of Manaus.
