I have asked a question on another thread about what if any Apistogramma would be found in the Rio Arapiuns.
I think this might be correct, confirmation from you guys needed?
Apistogramma arua
Next question, do these show up on the market at all?
Does anyone know of any in the U.K that might be for sale or of any other dwarfs that are found in this river biotope?

Brian.

I believe at least 3 different species live in the Rio Arapiuns drainage: A. arua, A. cf. pertensis (Arapiuns), and A. cf. agassizii (BBCS). It's possible that A. cf. gephyra (Santarém) also lives in the more blackwater parts of the system, too. Other than A. cf. pertensis, A. arua is isolated from the other dwarf cichlid species by a series of rapids (A. cf. pertensis is found above and below the rapids). Considering the archaic features of A. arua (and A. cf. pertensis for that matter), this isolation makes sense. I have seen posts on German sites of hobbyists who had A. arua, but I don't think it is brought in commercially very often. It's not one of the "desirable" species.

Thanks Mike, just read your other post, it is the black water biotope I'm copying, I have just got hold of 5 wild Arapiuns discus, my water is now PH 6 GH2 KH1 TDS30, the tank has loads of wood and leaf litter. Heiko Bleher suggested adding some whiptail catfish to keep things biotope correct.
Would the A. cf. agassizii (BBCS) be found in and around the flooded tree roots with the discus and whiptail catfish?

I'm not exactly sure which part of the Arapiuns that the Discus are found. My guess is that they're from the lower part (below the rapids). A. cf. aggassizii BBCS occurs here. You could use any A. agassizii form. As far as I know the form from the Arapiuns isn't commercially imported.

I managed to get hold of A arua from Germany (Dr Romer) and bred them maybe 12-18 months ago. Spread a few to hobbyists within the UK but unfortunately they seem to have died a death as do the vast majority of the rarer fishes brought into the UK.
You certainly wont find these in the UK at the moment.

Real shame that is a real tidy little fish, it would have looked great on the tank.

I'll have to look into the BBCS instead.

Thanks everyone for your input,

Brian
