Apistogramma alacrina

I picked up ( I hope ) a pair of Apistogramma alacrina , anyone with experience with these ? Are these blackwater species ? I'm getting a large bag of indian almond leaves , and I'm going to place them in all my dwarf cichlid tanks , I didn't know if A. alacrina would appreciate them or not.

Had a nice group of about 6 of em and they even spawned in my rather hard water a couple of times. Very easy to keep and awesome fry care from the mothers.

Almost all of the 'A. alacrina' sold commercially are actually A. cf. alacrina Rotpunct. The holotype form of A. alacrina has never been seen alive in the hobby. The paratype form has appeared very rarely. As DBlauj wrote, this species is an excellent apisto for beginning breeders. Normal water values (neutral to slightly acid and medium hardness), good food and regular tank maintenance is all that is needed to breed this fish. The females are normally excellent parents.

The two fish have grown and looks like a pair........What temps do these prefer ? Low 80s F or 75 F okay ? esp for breeding ?

Breed at 80°F/26.5°C and you will get even numbers of both sexes; breed at 75°F/24°C and you will get more females than males.

I ended up going back and getting 1.2 from the same LFS ... I really like this species , not shy at all. Now my group is 2.3 ... should be some good fin flaring in the up coming months . I was told these are WILD from Columbia , although I'm not sure of the locale exactly. Anyone here keep these ? have any pictures of their adults ?
