Just got a pair of A.trifasciata. Was wondering if it's ok for them to live in my 1 ft shrimp tank. Will they attack or eat the shrimps? Appreciate some advice here as this is my 1st pair. :)

Trifasciatas are great little fishes and I really don't think that they would do anything to amino shrimp. IME I have kept many apistogrammas that were larger than the trifasciatas and they haven't eaten the shrimp... attacked but never eaten. A. Trifasciatas can be really aggressive towards other apistogrammas especially with females that aren't breeding yet also, maybe your 1ft tank may be too small and you might want to add clumps of java moss for them to hide in if aggression gets too much.

Guys, thanks for the tips. I'm actually keeping a 1ft cherry shrimp tank. Guess they are smaller than Yamatos. Anyway, I decided against introducing the Trifasciatas pair as my cherries are pregnant. :D Besides, I got 3 Badis fries hiding around my thick Java Moss & Riccia. Wouldn't want them to end up as food of the Trifasciatas pair. :p

Anyway, I've put the pair in a 24x24x24cm cube tank with gravel, 13W PL light, mini external filter and Bogwood(tied with Taiwan Moss). Pretty empty. I'm still deciding on which small plants should I get so that there is a place for the Trifasciatas to hide. Would appreciate more comments/advice.

I had both amanos and green shrimp in with my two apistos, and they were fine. This weekend I picked up some cherries, put them in the tank, and the apistos started snacking on them. I guess they look like big fat bloodworms. :?

So, good decision to not put them in with your cherries.

Hey Amanda

Where did you get your apistos from and what kind are they? I am here in Vancouver too but I can't seem to find any and my husband has seen some of the pictures posted here and is drooling big time after them.

Any information would be much appreicated, thanks.

Cheers

David Soares hatchery is only a couple of states under you in Oregon if you can't find any good apisto keepers in BC.

Hi Marge,

I think Dave is in Germany right now. I don't know exactly when he left or when he will return. He just said that he was going in September.
