Apisto. hoignei

I am starting to have some success with the A. hoignei I got from TwoFishGuyz. I started a blog on the species here:

I got Hoignei from the same shipment that you did. I now have fry that are about half adult size and one that is six weeks old and a spawn that just took to swimming on thursday. I found that the pH needs to be around 5.2 and really soft. When I didnt have any space for fry to grow up I started using water from a different source and got them to stop spawning all together. Once I went back to water with a low hardness and low conductivity they begin spawning again. The female lays between 40-60 eggs each time. Survival has been exceptional.

pH 5.1-5.2

Feeding has been bbs, frozen whiteworms, cyclops, and some fine chopped beefheart. I try to give something different in the morning and bbs in the evening. It took awhile to get them to eat beefheart.

Interesting... according to the literature they are not supposed to require the low pH. I am keeping them in soft water, but I am not worried aboutthe pH and it stays between 6.2 - 6.7. This batch seems to be making it.
