hi everyone,

i want to know if Staecki is a very shy species. i just got one 3cm, he has always been hiding and dodge once he sees me passing by. very unlike bitaeniata once i kept. Anyone has experience with Staecki?

A. staecki is a small species. Several authors recommend keeping it only in a species tank with small peaceful dither fish.

Mine are shy but I think they fear the REALLY aggressive male (who also hides 1/2 the time) so they just don't come out often. They seem to be super aggressive fish. Mine are wild caught A. cf. staecki from Brazil.

thank you both. there are only 2 cardinal tetras and 1 male staecki in my tank. this male staecki is now 3cm, however it had been kept in the shop together with a big group of other small apistos for nearly 8 months. i doubt if there is any potential for it to grow up fast in my tank. i heard people say if apistos miss the right time, it will not grow much.
