Hallo.
I just saw some small food called "Golden Pearls".
:?: Anyone of you ever fed your fish with this kind of "new" food?

:?: If so, good or bad?

Golden Pearls

Hallo Par,

Recently, I've been feeding my smaller fry powdered golden pearls with much success. From what I understand, golden pearls is a nutritous Artemia replacement that is now used by some commercial fish hatcheries. It comes in different sizes--powdered, fine, small, etc.--so there is an appropriate size for your fish's stage of development. I also understand one should be careful not to overfeed, because uneaten food can foul water.

Good luck with it.

All the best,

Randall Kohn

randall, how do the fry take to it? i found when using mike reed's nobbs on discus fry, they would eat and grew, but there is nothing like feeding time when you throw in live food, like artemia. i fed every second or third feeding on live bbs, and that worked quite well, getting good growth, but with the ease of not bothering to keep up with bbs production for every feeding.

where does this golden pearl powder come from?

Golden Pearls

Dear Rick,

I get my golden pearls from my fish food guy who I found on Aquabid.com, and the fry seem to take to it just fine. Unfortunately, I don't know who makes it or exactly where it comes from. Should more information be forthcoming sometime, I'll post it here on the Forum.

Thanks!

You can get golden pearls via Brine Shrimp Direct. They do have various sizes and can be used for just about any sized fry. Good food!

Floating Pearls

Dear Par,

The powdered size mixes with water well. Simply pour some of the powder in a container, add water, mix and squirt into the school. I've not used the larger sizes, so I don't know if they will mix well with water or not.

For larger fry, I usually use decapsulated brine schrimp eggs and feed in the same manner as above.

Good luck!

I know this is an older post, however, I was wondering what you would feed to newly hatched ramirezi fry? GP Rotifer or DBS?

Thanks,

J
