Well, Tom, it was rather disappointing with regards to where we wanted to collect. El Niño hit Peru with a vengeance: little rain and very low water in most locations. We couldn't get very far up the Río Sumón, the Orosa area was not accessible by boat, nor was the upper Río Mazán. TomC & I spent too much time in Iquitos trying to find places we could get to: upper Río Yahuasyacu/mouth of the Sumón (Ampiyacu system), Middle Río Napo area, lower Río Tasche Curaray (lower Napo system), and the San Regis area (Marañon system). We found some new forms/species, but nothing commercially exciting:
A. cf. ortegai (Sumón), possibly the same as A 92
A. cf. cruzi from Nueva Bella Vista (close to A. cruzi)
A. cf. cruzi from San Rafael
A. cf. cacatuoides from Nueva Bella Vista
I haven't gotten my fish yet. They should be imported sometime in November.
Sorry to hear about the water levels. But you did get to go collecting and that is always an adventure. I look forward to some pictures of the fish you caught.
