Air system in the fishroom.

I just started work on the air system in the fishroom. I plan to use a linear piston air pump with 3/4" PVC and lever style valves (as Ted describes in his fishroom setup)from which I will run tubes to each sponge filter or airstone in the tanks.

Neither Lowes, HP and other local hardware stores in my area carry these lever style valves...is there a source online to get them from?

Also, from my readings, it is suggested to create some kind of way to relieve pressure from the system. What I came across was a bit unclear for me. Is there a simple way to accomplish this. I will run 3/4" PVC pipe along the edges of the ceiling (shaped as rectangle) and a T junction that will bring the two sides together with the source of air (the pump).

Again all your help is greatly appreciated.

Probably the easiest method is to leave the last valve open (a bleeder valve). You can adjust it as needed. If it whistles too much for your liking, just stuff a pipe cleaner in the opening. It will act as a muffler.

I, too, am thinking of changing to a linear pump air system, but my turbine blower, which has been running continuously since 1982 just keeps going ... and going ... and ...

Many thanks for every body's help.

The only question left is what size valve should I get to screw into the 3/4" PVC and run air line tubes to filters & air stones.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the sizes used on these sites to differentiate valves.

Again thank you for all the help.

www.kensfish.com also has the kind of valves you are looking for and they are quite cheap/effective.

It's crucial to let the excess of air out of your pipeline or else your pump will push too much and break up early. You can easily detect it by the noise it makes and the heat. Too much noise/heat = overload = pump breakup = $$$.

Good luck !

Hi,

just in case you happen to live in Germany (or Netherlands): I have a wildcaught female A. psammophila, you could have it for free. I have no use for it anymore.
