Hello hope all is well with everyone. Question, is it possible to mate a male agassizi double red with a female triple red ?

Short answer says agassizii x agassizii works. Long answers is something along the lines of what we consider the species agassizii, is actually somewhere between 7 and god knows how many different species that all kind look alike.

You are welcome to do what you want with your own fish, but many of us here are of the perspective that there are enough hybrids that it is hard enough to identify fish as it is.

I have personally never heard of agassizi triple reds, only cacatuodies where the # of red is supposed to donate the number of red fins. Cacatuoides double red and triple red are the same species, and closely related (and inbred as anything.) If this is the strain you mean, likely the fry would be a mix that share these traits in variance.

Good luck, L.

Triple and super red denote domestic strains, far removed from natural species.

Technically it should work, question is whether anyone will be interested and what will even come out of this. As Aquaticloch says, we have enough domestic strains in the hobby.

Yeah I hear ya it’s just that I have a Male double red and a friend of mine is getting rid of his fish and wants to give me a triple red female so not that I’m looking to breed and sell them kind of thing but just wondering if it could happen
