Hi guys,
A little question from my friend. He's wondering if his A. sp. Schwarzburst and his friends' fish are the same species. Here pics of both sexes:
Michael, thank you for the photos. I am fairly certain that your fish are the same as 'A. sp. affin. cruzi Picuruyacu'. Compare your photos with fish at: http://apisto.sites.no/page.aspx?pageid=53 (about half down the page). This fish is similar to A. sp. Nanay, but the caudal spot and caudal pattern are different. A. sp. affin. cruzi Picuruyacu occurs near Iquitos Peru and in the same general area as A. sp. Nanay. It might be a color population of A. sp. Nanay. I hope this helps.
Is there a reason that you use the circular polarizing filter? Does it reduce glare off the glass?
Your UV filter does not need to be used with a CPL. On film cameras a UV filter removed UV light. Film is sensitive to UV, but digital sensors are not. The only use for a UV filter on a digital camera is to protect the front lens. Even the best filter will degrade a photo, so the fewer filters the better.
