Hello,

I bought these fish as A. sp. Rio mata mata. Is anybody familiair with this species? I've never heard of it before. Didn't even know there is a rio mata mata. I bought them at a retailer who imported them out of Peru.
The male has a T-shaped spot on his chin. I can't see that (that clear) with the females

This is a commercial name, probably for some species already known under another name. It is hard to ID from these photos. None show the entire caudal fin and any abdominal markings are washed out. Right now all I can say is that it belongs to the trifasciata-lineage (no, it's not A. trifasciata), probably in the cacatuoides- or atahualpa-groups. BTW, if you plan to supply more photos of the fish, please downsize the files. Many members don't have super-fast download speed. 800 pixels wide is more than enough.

Thanks so far Mike! Soon, I will upload some (small size) photo's where you can see the entire caudal fin and abdominal markings.

More photo's from the A. sp. Rio Mata Mata. Despite the pore quality hopefully with enough details for identification.
